Cherie Edwards, MA, LPC-S, is a seasoned licensed professional counselor with over 15 years of dedicated experience supporting individuals from various backgrounds and age groups. She earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and further pursued her passion by obtaining a Masters in Counseling from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2010, she founded Work in Progress Counseling, LLC, driven by the mission to offer a safe haven for individuals seeking emotional, relational, and spiritual healing. Since 2015, Cherie has been fulfilling her role as a counseling supervisor, guiding and nurturing aspiring professionals in the field.
With an anticipated doctorate completion in 2025, Cherie continues to deepen her expertise and commitment to the field. While adept in addressing common concerns such as anxiety, depression, divorce recovery, and grief, she possesses specialized training and extensive experience in treating bipolar disorder, codependency, and substance abuse.
During her many years of practice, Cherie has become increasingly aware of the disparity in mental health care access. Her response to this, in 2021, was to found a nonprofit, More Work More Progress. The Mission of More Work More Progress is to expand mental health awareness and access to services throughout our local community, state, and across the globe.
Cherie holds certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sandtray therapy, specializing in trauma, PTSD, and Minority Health Issues. Her multifaceted approach ensures comprehensive care tailored to each individual's unique needs.
